Ellsworth, OH Residents Use SERVPRO's Expertise

3/21/2019 (Permalink)

You know the old adage, “April showers bring May flowers." Well, too much water can bring something else too, mold. That four letter word (mold) is always present throughout our everyday environment. Mold is defined as “a superficial often woolly growth, produced especially on damp or decaying organic matter or on living organisms by a fungus." Despite this unsavory definition, what needs to be understood is that not all mold is bad.

The "bad" mold is the type we don’t want in our home or place of work. It can produce allergens and irritants and cause health issues to some. At SERVPRO of West Mahoning County, we have the professional training and experience to resolve any mold issues you may have.

Before mold remediation begins, the cause of the humidity and moisture (water) must be addressed. When indoor humidity is higher than normal, mold growth can occur. Keeping your indoor humidity below 45 percent can help minimize or even eliminate mold growth. But, if there is a continual water (moisture) problem, then mold may continually reappear.

So, if you have mold showing in your home, it may be caused by dripping water lines under a sink or chalking missing around the bath tub or high humidity areas (laundry rooms, etc.). Once you have found the source and fixed it, it’s time to call a reputable remediation company.

SERVPRO of West Mahoning County specializes in mold remediation. Our IICRC staff will put a protocol in place to remove the existing mold. The remediation process depends on the amount of mold growth and the type of surface on which it appears. SERVPRO uses anti-fungal and anti-microbial treatments to eliminate mold and to help prevent new colonies from forming. It may be necessary to remove and dispose of mold-infested materials, like drywall and carpeting, to fully remediate heavy mold growth.

For more information on mold or to schedule mold remediation services, contact SERVPRO of West Mahoning County at (330) 609-8543.

Restoration Company in Austintown Handles Water Loss

3/21/2019 (Permalink)

Why SERVPRO Restoration Company in Austintown Handles Water Loss This basement suffered a water loss due to a broken pipe

People often wonder how long had the water been flowing in their house to flood their basement with 2 feet of water?

Here is a familiar scenario...Let’s say you have a 1,500 square-foot basement. While you're away on vacation, a ½ inch water line pipe bursts in your basement. Water is spewing freely at a rate of 14 gallons per minute. Amazingly, your 1,500 square-foot basement will be filled 2 feet high in water in about 15.5 hours.

Needless to say, panic has set in. You've come home to a disaster. You want it gone and your property restored to "Like it never even happened."

So now the questions start racing through your mind...“what are you going to do?”... “where is the leak?”... “who are you going to call?" Will my insurance cover this?

SERVPRO of West Mahoning County knows how to handle this problem from start to finish. It's what we do everyday. First, a determination of what  type of water loss must be established. Water is classified by IICRC into 3 categories, commonly referred to as CAT 1, CAT 2 or CAT 3. Each of these categories requires a different level of mitigation. A fresh water pipe is classified as a CAT 1 water loss. CAT 2 is water that is significantly contaminated and CAT 3 is water that is grossly contaminated. The main difference between 2 or 3, is the latter contains fecal matter or bacterial growth.

The crews at SERVPRO of West Mahoning County  have IICRC certified technicians on each job. They know the correct protocol to follow to effectively mitigate each classification of water. Trusting a professional to know how to do it right the first time and make it "Like it never even happened." brings you a much needed peace of mind.

By the way, using our professional equipment, SERVPRO technicians can extract (i.e., pump out) all that water in less than 2 hours!

Staging Materials for Rebuild in Canfield, Ohio

3/1/2019 (Permalink)

Why SERVPRO Staging Materials for Rebuild in Canfield, Ohio Flooring material staged and acclimating for install

At SERVPRO, we understand the importance of staging materials prior to the start of your construction project. This is important for a few reasons.

First and foremost, we stage materials so that they can properly acclimate to the rooms in which they are being installed. This makes the material easier to work with while at the same time helping to eliminate the potential problems that can arise from the continuous expansion and contraction of these materials.

Gaps between sheets of drywall, floor boards, and any rippling effects happen much more often when materials have not been properly acclimated.

Another reason why materials are staged from the start of the job is that the customer can see what the selected materials look like. It also provides a sense of security for you, knowing that we have everything onsite and ready to be installed.

As a local construction company, SERVPRO takes great pride in providing the best possible service to our customers and community.  If you are in need of repairs or remodeling work, call SERVPRO of West Mahoning County @ (330) 609-8543.

Ways SERVPRO Guarantees Its' Work

2/22/2019 (Permalink)

At SERVPRO we guarantee the quality of our work and aim to deliver the best possible outcomes to our customers.

One way we deliver great results is by letting the construction materials used in the rebuilding process acclimate for the necessary amount of time. When a material acclimates, its physical temperature changes to match that of the room in which it is scheduled to be used.

This practice is of paramount importance for a few reasons. Not only is the material much easier to work with once it is properly acclimated, but it diminishes the chances of problems occurring in the final result. The fact that materials will expand and contract as their temperature changes becomes less of a worry.

If materials are used before acclimation is complete, a variety of issues can potentially occur. Gaps can form between separate sheets of drywall, floor boards can buckle, and paneling can get a rippling effect. These problems not only cause the final product to lose its aesthetic look, but the material itself is ruined and must be totally replaced.

Also, different materials need to acclimate for varying amounts of time. The minimum for every type of material is twenty-four hours. However, some materials need to acclimate for much longer.

Two examples of this are hardwood plank floor (three to four days) and snap-lock laminate flooring (minimum of forty-eight hours). As a local construction company, it is incredibly important to us that we provide the very best in quality for our customers and community in Youngstown, Ohio.

Our construction project managers are always here to help and answer any other questions you may have, so feel free to ask!
